Phoenixes were energy-draining creatures from another dimension.

Biology

Phoenixes enter the universe only every few eons in order to lay their stone-like eggs in the hearts of dying stars.

The creatures took the form of a bird made of living flame. While in Earth mythology, Phoenixes were thought to create energy, they actually drain it. They survived by absorbing every last spark of heat from everything around it. Once they absorbed enouch energy, they punched a hole in time and space back to their own dimension. (COMIC: The Eagle of the Reich). If a Phoenix were extinguished, the creature was able to be reborn from the smallest remaining cinder of its flame. (AUDIO: Frostfire)

In its cinder and egg forms, Phoenixes were able to telepathically communicate with and influence humans around it in order to ensure its own survival and rebirth. (AUDIO: Frostfire)
