Francesca watched her governess, "Miss Montague" (actually Clara Oswald), die in the last seconds of Christmas Eve, 1892, from massive internal injuries stemming from a fall from cloud level. Francesca's prior governess died approximately a year earlier from drowning; that governess began to appear in Francesca's dreams in late 1892, chastising Francesca and stating that she was coming out of the frozen pond on Christmas to get her.
