(correcting fundamental misapprehension of this topic. total rewrite. it's absolutely wrong to assume that the first doctor's are brainy specs (i.e. "false"), and it's flatly wrong to call 11th Doctor's "false". we know they are real corrective lens)

The term "brainy specs" was a nickname invented by the Tenth Doctor to describe glasses that the Fifth Doctor didn't "even need" but that "made him look a bit clever". He then admitting to using such faux glasses himself. (TV: Time Crash)
