The Brief Encounter short story published in DWM 184 was untitled. It has, however, been given the title Duggan by the Doctor Who Reference Guide.

Summary

Duggan meets the Seventh Doctor and Ace one rainy night in London, where he is now working as a private detective. He is bewildered that this man he has never seen before recognises him from Paris, and doesn't believe it is the same Doctor he knew. However, Duggan is eventually persuaded to lend the pair the Tube fare back to the TARDIS.

Continuity

  • Duggan previously met the Fourth Doctor and Romana in Paris, France in 1979. (TV: City of Death)
  • The events of this story take place for Duggan a long time after City of Death, and at some point between TV: Battlefield and PROSE: Love and War for the Doctor and Ace (as the accompanying illustration by Cordell Raby appears to show the cuff of the Doctor's dark brown jacket poking out of the sleeve of his duffle-coat).
