The Strigidae were a race of intelligent owl-like birds that were hunted to the point of near extinction. They survived, led by their leader Lord Strige, on the planet Hydrocallica, a barren world, that they protected and shielded by a water molecule shield that covered the surface and gave the impression of a water world (whose surface you could bounce across without getting wet). Over time the shield began to break down and water leaked through to the Strigidae world beneath.
