The Mother Road was the first short story in the Short Trips anthology Short Trips: Farewells. It was written by Gareth Wigmore. It featured the First Doctor, Ian Chesterton, Barbara Wright and Susan.

Summary

The Doctor accidentally loses the TARDIS in a bet. As Californian businessman Buchanan prepares to auction the time machine, the Doctor and his three companions take a road trip across America... the future of them all, and possibly, the whole of Time, is at stake. Can the Doctor retrieve his time machine? or are his days as a time traveller over forever?
