IndexPanopticon → DVD releases - own articles?
Spoilers are strongly policed here.
If this thread's title doesn't specify it's spoilery, don't bring any up.

Story releases, box sets, new series, and so on. Should each DVD release have its own article? There is much potential information that could be contained on those pages which perhaps might not be relevant on the story pages.

So what are people's thoughts?

I think the boxed sets with multiple serials should get their own pages, but the DVDs for single serials should just be put in the serial's article. -Azes13 13:34, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I see this is the current policy (and the reasons for it are sound).

When classic series season boxsets are eventually released, things are going to get a bit complicated, if they're not already complicated enough with the recently announced Davros boxset, the re-releases of certain stories (the "o-ring" slipcovers), and two-story boxsets. Going by boxsets, we'll end up with duplication of information. My idea is to simply to have pages for each season on DVD. For example, Season 12 on DVD could contain a list of the stories in that season and details of their individual releases and what boxsets they are on, plus details of the season boxset (which it's eventually out).

I have some more questions about the DVD releases:

  • Some of the DVD sections in story pages have titles of special features linked to their own pages, like making-of documentaries, but I have yet to see any actual pages for these. Should I create pages or just remove the links?
  • Could a link be added to the relevant DVD release page on the Restoration Team website?

That's about it, I think.

Okay, I've created a mock-up possible DVD article on Genesis of the Daleks. To avoid messing up any existing articles, I made it in my user page at User:David the Wavid. Obviously it doesn't contain an infobox as one hasn't been created for DVDs but I did what I could. Any further comments or should I scrap it? David 21:36, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Well I'm relatively convinced, though the one suggestion I would make is that the article contains the information for all releases of said story (ie VHS/Laserdisc (should it be one of the stories to have been)/DVD).
Unless there should be individual articles for all of the various formats? That's the only thing I've been wondering about, as the DVDs can easily fill a page on their own, but could the VHS? Some of them got multiple/re-releases so there probably could be enough information to make an article for them.
But to answer your above questions (after now added my own to ponder on) I think all the stories should have DVD articles, except the new series releases which should be dealt with as the big season boxed sets (with a heading in the page dealing with the 'Vanilla' releases perhaps). Actually any classic series stories released as a boxed set would also have their own page (in addition to the individual boxed sets in the case of the Davros set etc), so in that case you'd have links off to the DVD pages. So something like the New Beginnings set would have the 3 separate pages for Keeper of Traken, Logopolis and Castrovalva, but also a 'New Beginnings' DVD set, which would have links off to each of the individual stories but would also contain information of the whys and hows of the DVD box set (why it was released as such, how it's marketed overseas/in the UK) something like that. That was it could be a nicely referenced page along with links to the individual DVD story pages. --Tangerineduel 13:39, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
Imho I think we should have pages for releases which have anything 'extra' to say about them, for example any ones with special features or ones that have been re-released, possibly on different formats. Otherwise we will probably end up woth quite a lot of articles with about one sentence on them. --Hp 4 eva 20:34, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Seeing as season boxsets aren't out yet, why not have pages for the individual releases of each season. So, say, all the DVD releases so far of serials from season 4 have a page, ettc. Or, just add them the the re-existing season pages. Taccer 07 19:54, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

I have created pages for classic released boxsets of the following:

I may create:

  • New Beginings
  • The Beggining
  • Arc of Infinity/Time flight

Maybe not the last one as that is just two dvds together rather than a named set. Is this of any help? Or was this not what you were reffering to.--Skittles the hog 12:43, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
