The Master, under the guise of Sir Giles Estram, knocks Hugh Fitzwilliam from his horse with a lance during a jousting bout. (TV: The King's Demons)

A lance was a pole weapon designed to be used while mounted.

During jousting matches, a lance was the primary weapon of a knight, who used the weapon to demount their adversary. During one such contest, the Master was able to knock Hugh Fitzwilliam from his horse with a single thrust on the first pass. (TV: The King's Demons)
