: As explained in "Let's Kill Hitler", "silence will fall" is a shortened version of "silence will fall when the Question is asked," and is the principle creed of the Order of the Silence. This was further elaborated upon in "The Wedding of River Song", in which Dorium explained that "silence ''must'' fall" is a better translation, and that the Silence's goal is to prevent the Doctor from reaching Trenzalore and answering the Question. When asked by Winston Churchill why the Question meant that the Doctor had to die, the Doctor explained that if there was someone who knew a terrible secret that must never be spoken, in order to erase that secret forever, one would attempt to kill the person who knew it, and then that person's "silence" would fall. The Silence hope to prevent the Question from being answered by killing the Doctor before he can reach Trenzalore, thereby ensuring that he will remain ''silent'' when the Question is asked. So [the Doctor's] silence falling is something that they want to cause, not prevent. As explained in "Let's Kill Hitler", "silence will fall" is a shortened version of "silence will fall when the Question is asked," and is the principle creed of the Order of the Silence. This was further elaborated upon in "The Wedding of River Song", in which Dorium explained that "silence must fall" is a better translation, and that the Silence's goal is to prevent the Doctor from reaching Trenzalore and answering the Question. When asked by Winston Churchill why the Question meant that the Doctor had to die, the Doctor explained that if there was someone who knew a terrible secret that must never be spoken, in order to erase that secret forever, one would attempt to kill the person who knew it, and then that person's "silence" would fall. The Silence hope to prevent the Question from being answered by killing the Doctor before he can reach Trenzalore, thereby ensuring that he will remain silent when the Question is asked. So [the Doctor's] silence falling is something that they want to cause, not prevent. Ensephylon 22:54, July 1, 2013 (UTC)
