Thane was the High Priest of Florana early on in its history. He was loyal to a Dalek who claimed to be one of its gods. He heard the Dalek talking to the Fifth Doctor, and admitting that it was not a true god. Realising he had been used all this time, he killed the Dalek, and tried to use a weapon known as the Cleansing Fire to wipe all non believers from the face of the planet. He died in the process.
