A jailer was in charge of the gaol where Susan, Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright were imprisoned.

He promised to make life easier for Barbara and Susan if they would be "friends" with him, but was angered when they refused. He reported on Ian Chesterton and Webster's conversation to Lemaitre.

The jailer was subservient to the First Doctor when he arrived at the gaol, pretending to be a regional officer. He was tricked by the Doctor into letting Barbara escape, but wasn't fooled again into letting Susan escape.
