Freema Agyeman (born 1st January 1979) played the role of Martha Jones, the companion to the Tenth Doctor, played by David Tennant, introduced in Smith and Jones.
Freema Agyeman had previously appeared briefly in Army of Ghosts as Adeola Oshodi, a Torchwood Institute employee, who was the cousin of Martha who she plays as the main companion in Series 3 and part of Series 4
Between appearing in series 3 and 4,She appeared as Martha in three episodes of Torchwood and was the third character to crossover between the two shows.
2008 was a breakout year for the actress. Besides her appearances on Doctor Who and Torchwood, it was also announced that she would be starring in a remake of the 1970s Terry Nation series, Survivors, and in July 2008 it was announced that she would star in Law & Order: London, an ITV spin-off of the American Law & Order franchise. Rumours also persist that she may appear in the third series of Torchwood, however, the London Sun reports that she has accepted a role in ITV's Law & Order: London instead.[1]
