Theme music refers to two specific types of music. Often, it is the music played over the opening and closing titles of an episode. It can also be a leitmotif, or theme played to identify a character, situation or a race. Though leitmotifs were very occasionally used during the 1963 version of the Doctor Who, they have become considerably more common in the BBC Wales Whoniverse. Most episodes of the BBC Wales version of Doctor Who also have music which particularly identifies them, but these compositions are generally considered "suites" rather than "themes".
