achs is best known for his role as Manuel, the [[Spain|Spanish]] waiter in the sitcom ''Fawlty Towers,'' produced first in [[1975]] and again in [[1979]]. Interestingly, Sach's co-star [[John Cleese]] made a cameo appearance in the ''Doctor Who'' story, "[[City of Death]]," during the same season that the original, incomplete version of "[[Shada (TV story)|Shada]]" was produced.

Sachs was born in [[Berlin]], [[Germany]]. His family moved to [[England]] when he was eight years old to escape the [[Nazi]] persecution of [[Jew]]s. He is married to Melody Lang, who appeared in one episode of ''Fawlty Towers'', "Basil the Rat," as Mrs. Taylor. His step-son is John Sachs, erstwhile Capital Radio DJ and Gladiators commentator.
 
Sachs is now frequently heard as a narrator of television and radio documentaries. From [[1984]] to [[1986]], Sachs starred as Father Brown in a [[BBC Radio]] series based on the stories of G.K. Chesterton.
 
Sachs performed all the voices in the English-language version of Jan Švankmajer's [[1994]] film ''Faust''.
 
Sachs also appeared on many children's TV shows, such as ''William's Wish Wellingtons'', ''Starhill Ponies'' and ''AlfTales''. In addition, he has been a narrator on many television documentaries, including ITV's ''...from Hell'' series and the ''Eyewitness'' videos.

Andrew Sachs (born Andreas Siegfried Sachs, 7 April, 1930) appeared as Skagra in the webcast/audio version of Shada, a Season 17 Doctor Who story never completed or broadcast on television. Sylvester McCoy suggested in 2008 that he would make the best replacement for David Tennant, soon to leave the role of the Tenth Doctor.
