Dido was the home planet of the Didonians. It had been visited by the Doctor twice, though no details exist as to his first visit. Dido was home to telepathic Near-Human Didonians and formidable-looking (though apparently harmless) creatures known as sand beasts.

In 2493, a Human spacecraft crashlanded on the planet. The only survivors of the wreck were Vicki and Bennett, a murderer who killed the other surviors and the Didonians, apart from two who survived. The Doctor and his companions arrived on Dido in the TARDIS. They discovered the truth behind Bennett (whom two surviving Didonians appeared to kill) and took Vicki away in the TARDIS.
