Kaftan was a member of the Brotherhood of Logicians. She financed Professor Parry's expedition to Telos. She took part in the expedition with her colleague Eric Klieg and her servant Toberman. She helped Klieg form an alliance with the Cybermen. When it appears that the controlled Toberman killed Klieg with the Cyber-Controller ordering her to open the door, she refused and started shooting at him. The Cyber-Controller retaliated and killed Kaftan. (TV: The Tomb of the Cybermen). It was her death that seem to partially snapped Toberman off his mind control as he attack the Cyber-Controller.
