An American sergeant was stationed at the Snowcap in Antarctica in December 1986. He was responsible for apprehending the First Doctor, Ben Jackson and Polly Wright when they were found outside the base. A short time later, while attempting to gain entry to the TARDIS, the sergeant and two of his colleagues were attacked and killed by three Cybermen. (TV: The Tenth Planet)
