Doctor Who DVD Files is a fortnightly partwork magazine published by GE Fabbri, authorised by 2 entertain and BBC Worldwide.
It is intended to be a unique build-up reference work of the celebrated TV series, Doctor Who. As well as a magazine, each issue includes a DVD of two episodes of the re-launched series with Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant as the heroic Time Lord, the Doctor.
The magazine was launched on January 14th 2009 throughout the UK and Ireland after a regional test in the north-east of the UK (from September 2008). Its editor is Claire Lister and the project manager is Ben Robinson.
Doctor Who DVD Files is aimed at fans of all ages, and the first 28 issues will concentrate on series 1-4 of Doctor Who since its return in 2005.
Doctor Who DVD Files is divided into seven sections:
1. The Doctor
The Doctor’s adventures from the very beginning when he joined the Academy on Gallifrey.
2. Allies
Take a closer look at the Doctor’s friends, travelling companions and those who help to defeat the monsters and villains.
3. Enemies
Detailed information about the Doctor’s adversaries – including some of his greatest foes from the classic series.
4. Episode Guides
Story briefs, facts, pictures and insider secrets to go with the stories on each DVD.
5. Technology
The series’ gadgetry and vehicles, with cut-away artwork of spaceships, tools and weapons.
6. Behind-the-Scenes
Interviews with members of the production team, including model makers, writers and those playing the monsters.
7. Flashback
In every other issue there is artwork based on scenes from the classic series such as the Doctor’s first meeting with the Daleks and his battle with the Giant Robot!
