Jem Bassett voiced the young William Shakespeare, credited as "Kitchen Boy", in the Big Finish Doctor Who audio story The Time of the Daleks. To hide the fact Jem was really a girl, they shortened her name from Jemma to Jem to not reveal Shakespeare was portrayed by a woman. Jemma lives in Plymouth under her married name of Jemma Nicholls. She has one child and portrays companion Macey Ferguson in Plymouth Who Productions. For the 50th anniversary in 2013, Plymouth Who Productions pulled a variety of casting from their team, impersonators and a cameo from Katy Manning reprising her role as Jo Grant.
