D.I. Burke was a detective assigned to investigate deaths at the Winterborne Public School. A cynical and old-fashioned policeman, he bristled at being asked to co-ordinate with Liz Shaw and her Preternatural Research Bureau (PROBE). However, as events unfolded and especially after witnessing the disappearance of Christian Purcell, Burke asked for a permanent transfer to Shaw's department.
