Franco Alfano was an Italian composer. After fellow composer Giacomo Puccini died, Alfano completed Puccini's opera Turandot based on his notes. The circumstances struck the Eighth Doctor, who had been with Puccini before his death, as "so sad." (TV: Doctor Who)
