Remember, a 1,000-year war was warped into a brief nuclear skirmish. History was not perfectly preserved after the Daleks came. - I think in I, Davros it says that the Dals were extinct by the time the Daleks were created and, because the Daleks were inspired by the Dals, the records mistakenly said the Kaleds were Dals or something.
