The Da Gama was a deep space probe captained by Admiral Vayle.
The Seventh Doctor once materialised on board to discover the ship was on autopilot and that Vayle was in a form of suspended animation, in which the Admiral experienced virtual reality to alleviate his boredom during the long journey. At the time, the ship was in the thirteenth year of its mission. (COMIC: Technical Hitch)
