Washington DC was one of ten major cities across the world, all of which had underground railways, where Coldfire Construction built a reactor within a period of 18 months as part of a plot by the Slitheen to drain the Sun's energy, operated by at least one Slitheen disguised using a skin suit made from a local. At somepoint in 2008, after Sarah Jane Smith foiled the Slitheen with the help of her friends at Park Vale Comprehensive School at Ealing in London, she contacted UNIT so they would clear up the Coldfire sites. (TV: Revenge of the Slitheen)

In 2009, Alan Jackson moved here with his daughter Maria Jackson from their old home in the Ealing district of London. (TV: The End of Time) Following Miracle Day, Dr Vera Juarez helped Rex Matheson recover from his punctured heart. (TV: The New World) She worked at a conference in City Hall to investigate the nature of the Miracle. (TV: Rendition) Rex, along with Esther Drummond later forcibly left the CIA in Langley to join Torchwood here, before heading for Los Angeles. (TV: Rendition, Dead of Night, Escape to LA) Discovering the passing of the categories of life by the US government, Dr Juarez also left for LA to meet up with Torchwood. Though it's possible that a real world location doesn't exist in the same geographic space in the Doctor Who universe, such cases are few and far between. Thus, the map to the right is probably a good indicator of the DWU location of Washington DC.
