Match of the Day was the sixth story in the Bernice Summerfield anthology Something Changed. It was written by Eddie Robson.

Summary

Doggles consoles Benny after the funeral for Jason. They meet up eight years latter and rekindle their relationship.

Characters

References

  • Benny refers to archaeological work that she did on the planet Vulcan.
  • Cahlians have rough red skin, three toes, hair like pine needles, and have modified eyes that can see in brighter light than humans can.
  • Eight years after the history machine malfunctioned, Benny works at the Jackson City Academy on Mars.
  • Although not explicitly stated, Benny's student, Ssal, is likely an Ice Warrior due to his affiliation with Mars, and the double "s" in front of his name, a common Ice Warrior naming convention.
  • Benny and Doggles get engaged.

Notes

  • Like most of the other stories in this anthology, this story takes place in an altered timeline created by Doggles' history machine; these timelines are (mostly) erased when Braxiatel returns things to normal.
