Benjamin Franklin was an American scientist from Earth during the 18th century, who discovered static electricity. The Doctor once claimed to have met Franklin and worked with him the night he discovered static electricity. He also claimed that he got rope burns from the kite used in the famous experiment, got soaked by the rain, and then got struck by lightning, electrocuting him which most likely triggered his Ninth Doctor.
