Ryan was a student at Coal Hill School and in Clara Oswald's English class. He had to spit out his gum before class and asked to get it back after class, to which Clara asked how he would know which one of the various gums in the bucket was his, much to his classmates' laughter. He was worried about his teacher when she stared out the window. He was asked to take out his phone to go on the news websites and use the hashtag #ThePlanesHaveStopped on Twitter.
