A cricket ball was a particular game used in the game of cricket.

In his fifth incarnation, the Doctor, who at that time dressed as a cricket player, while drifting aimlessly in space, propelled himself back to the TARDIS by throwing a cricket ball against the hull of the Monarch's ship and letting the momentum of the ball propel him back to the doors of his ship.
