Rupesh Patanjali was a doctor, originally from the Midlands, who worked at the A&E department at St Helen's Hospital in Cardiff. Jack and Ianto encounter him while they removed an alien Hitchhiker from within a patient. His interest in Torchwood piqued. Rupesh tracked Torchwood down to the Bay and Gwen talked with him at length.

BBC promotional materials and early in the episode itself it looked as if he was going to join the team as a replacement doctor role since the death of Owen Harper in a simlar way to how
