Ludwig Prinn's De Vermis Mysteriis was a book of arcane knowledge.
A 16th century German black letter edition of the book was in the collection of the Library of St John the Beheaded in 1887. Sherlock Holmes considered it a remarkably good copy. (PROSE: All-Consuming Fire)
Ace found a copy in Gilles Lemaitre villa in Haiti in 1915. (PROSE: White Darkness)
Behind the scenes
- The fictional De Vermis Mysteriis and its author Ludwig Prinn were creations of Robert Bloch. It first appeared in his short story The Shambler from the Stars. His correspondent, H. P. Lovecraft, included it in several of his own stories, including The Haunter of the Dark and The Shadow Out of Time. It was also incorporated into other stories by literary friends of Lovecraft.
