One of the mentions of the Time War (prior to its depiction in "The Day of the Doctor") was of the Could've Been King. Could that be the Doctor? In the 50th anniversary special, Ten accidentally proposes to the queen and they actually wed before he runs off forever. This would make him king, but he chose to give that up by running away.
