This template puts a little CSS span class around a group of words to make them italic. It should never be used in the body of articles, but rather was a workaround made in June 2017 for getting page titles properly italicised. It was thus most often used in conjunction with {{retitle}}, like this:
{{retitle|SS {{i|Bernice}}}}
As of 22 June 2017, use of this template is no longer necessary.
