Captain Benjamin Briggs was master of the Mary Celeste. On 25 November 1872, Daleks materialised on the Mary Celeste's deck in search of the Doctor's TARDIS. Their appearance frightened everyone aboard into immediately abandoning ship. Like his crew and family before him, Briggs leaped overboard from the gunwale in the hope of escape. Neither his body nor those of anyone else from ship were ever recovered. (TV: The Chase)
