Tommy was Mary's boyfriend. One night, after Tommy took Mary to a music hall, they went into a London alleyway for a "quick kiss and a cuddle". However, in the alleyway they discovered the entrance to the junkyard where the Doors were waiting to launch their invasion of Earth. One doorway opened itself and swallowed Tommy, depositing him on the planet of the Doors.
The Tenth Doctor later journeyed to the Doors' homeplanet and rescued Tommy along with the rest of the Doors' victims. He was taken back to Edwardian era London in the Doctor's TARDIS. The vibrations of John Henry's doorbell wiped Tommy's memory of the events surrounding the Doors. (PROSE: Knock Knock!)
