The Eighth Doctor successfully convinced her to attempt to stop her ambitious boyfriend from abusing Om-Tsor, but Ed, having become addicted to the power rush the drug offered him, read Maddie's mind, and upon realizing she had been turned against him, brainwashed her into a devoted servant.
