While investigating Halyvon artifacts, specifically a necklace that allowed her to communicate telepathically with the other wearers, Bernice Summerfield was able to hear 26 (The Kingdom of the Blind) in her head. Heading to the planet, Bernice was shocked to discover that the native population had been enslaved by Monoids who planned to remove all of the slave's eyes, ears and speech.
