In one timeline, he interrogated the Seventh Doctor and Mel, and didn't believe they weren't telling the truth, appearing gleeful at the prospect of torturing them into a permanently catatonic state if they failed to answer his questions. In another, he was creating a time machine to stop Bailey from being murdered, and was presented as a broken man who grieved the news that his family had been 'rationalised' so that he could live to complete his work, unconcerned at the end as his machine overloaded and destroyed the planet.
