- An image of the Tenth Doctor appears on the cover. This is the first time the Doctor has appeared on the cover of a spin-off series-based novel (and indeed is also the first time he has been featured as a major character, too).
- This is also the first time the Doctor has appeared in a novelisation since the revival of the parent series in 2005, which makes The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith the first novelisation of a televised Doctor Who story since the TV Movie was adapted in 1996 (although the last "regular-episode" novelisation was DWN: The Evil of the Daleks in 1993.
- It also marks the first appearance of the Tenth Doctor in a novel outside the BBC Books New Series Adventures line, as the Sarah Jane novelisations are published by Penguin Character Books.
- Since the novelisations have skipped most of Series 2 and part of Series 3 (with future publications as yet unannounced), it's unclear whether this book is considered the 9th book in the series, although it is the ninth to be published.
