Summary
While trying to choose his next destination the Doctor is suddenly aware of how dusty the TARDIS is inside and especially the console. Still reflecting on his escape from the empty prison cell, the TARDIS (while still in flight), is invaded by Koto (a bounty hunter) intent on absorbing every particle of light, heat and air from the TARDIS using his crystalline blue body. The Doctor demands to know why and is told Koto received a justice force auto-alert. The Doctor is wanted for his part in helping a war criminal escape from imprisonment. The Doctor explains the cell was empty but Koto will hear no excuses and begins absorption of the TARDIS in an attempt to eliminate the Doctor before recapturing the prisoner. As the sudden cold begins to bite the Doctor changes into a yellow survival suit from the TARDIS wardrobe (where his previous outfits are housed).. Koto has absorbed all the heat from the TARDIS and the survival suit so the Doctor rapidly cools down the bounty hunter with a fire extinguisher, a bucket of ice and a sudden snowstorm. Koto’s sudden cooling down causes a short in the creatures thermal balance and sends him back to where he came from. As the Doctor still puzzles over the “war criminal” reference a face can be seen in the dust.
Characters
- Tenth Doctor
- Koto – Giant blue crystalline bounty hunter with the special ability to absorb air, heat and light by his body.
Original Print Details
Installment, publication title with page count and closing caption.
- 2/4 Doctor Who: Battles in Time Issue 39 (4 pages) TO BE CONTINUED…
- No reprints to date.
Notes
- Supporting the series of collectable Doctor Who trading cards, the magazine title, carried a regular 4 page, individually titled comic strip series of the Tenth Doctor’s adventures.
- Style wise, the artwork and colours were bold and bright reflecting the tone of the magazine and, as with Doctor Who Adventures, it reflected the appeal to younger readers than that catered for by Doctor Who Magazine.
- The TARDIS’s winding DNA like stairwell to the wardrobe area of the ship (first seen in “The Christmas Invasion”), shows the first six former-Doctors coats displayed on a hanging rail.
References
- The Battles in Time comic strip often sought to reinforce the Doctor character with that as seen on screen by utilising various ‘props’ used in the TV series. Namely; blue/brown suit, sonic screwdriver, psychic paper and his intelligent glasses.
Continuity
to be added
