::Apologies for "butting in", but Grammarly (which is a grammar-checking Chrome extension) does have a British English setting, which I have notified Chasenina of. This would allow him to properly edit with only British English errors highlighted, and would clear up any confusion for him without the necessity for giving him "all the British words". It may be wise to give him amnesty in this case, since it may very well just be a case of being misled by an incorrect spellchecker setting (which I personally have as well). Of course, if you've had more experience and are confident that he cannot return even after the spellchecker issues on his end are resolved, you may keep the block -- after all, it is your judgement entirely. I'm simply outlining some additional context from my usage of the software, and my belief that an infinite block may be rather heavy-handed in this scenario.<br/><span style="background: #00FFFF; padding: 5px 5px 5px 10px; border: 2px solid #00AAAA; border-radius: 1em 0 0 0.2em; box-shadow: 0 3px 0 #006666"><span style="color: #006666; background: none; -webkit-text-fill-color: initial">banana</span></span> <span style="background: #00FFCC; padding: 5px 10px 5px 5px; border: 2px solid #00AA88; border-radius: 0; box-shadow: 0 3px 0 #006644"><span style="color: #005533; background: none; -webkit-text-fill-color: initial">talk/wall</span></span> <span style="background: #CCFF00; padding: 5px 10px 5px 5px; border: 2px solid #88AA00; border-radius: 0 0.2em 1em 0; box-shadow: 0 3px 0 #446600"><span style="cursor: pointer; color: #225500; background: none; -webkit-text-fill-color: initial" class="mw-customtoggle-timestamp">timestamp</span><span class="mw-collapsible mw-collapsed" id="mw-customcollapsible-timestamp" title="timestamp" style="color: #445500; height: 1em !important; font-family: 'OCR A Std', 'Courier New', monospace;">: 23.12 universal time | 19 august 2018</span></span> | ::Apologies for "butting in", but Grammarly (which is a grammar-checking Chrome extension) does have a British English setting, which I have notified Chasenina of. Revision as of 23:14, 19 August 2018
Thanks for your edits! We hope you'll keep on editing with us. This is a great time to have joined us, because now you can play the Game of Rassilon with us and win cool stuff! Well, okay, badges. That have no monetary value. And that largely only you can see. But still: they're cool!
We've got a couple of important quirks for a Wikia wiki, so let's get them out of the way first.
British English, please
We generally use British English round these parts, so if you're American, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.
Spoilers aren't cool
We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.
Other useful stuff
Aside from those two things, we also have some pages that you should probably read when you get a chance, like:
- the listing of all our help, policy and guideline pages
- our Manual of Style
- our image use policy
- our user page policy
- a list of people whose job it is to help you
If you're brand new to wiki editing — and we all were, once! — you probably want to check out these tutorials at Wikipedia, the world's largest wiki:
Remember that you should always sign your comments on talk and vote pages using four tildes like this:Thanks for becoming a member of the TARDIS crew! If you have any questions, see the Help pages, add a question to one of the Forums or ask on my talk page. CzechOut ☎ 14:22, August 15, 2018 (UTC)
Spelling
Hi, please note that we use British spelling on this wiki. See Tardis:Spelling for details. Thanks, Shambala108 ☎ 22:44, August 16, 2018 (UTC)
- You've been blocked for an hour to get your attention. Please read the policy I cited above, then respond here to state that you've read it. Thanks, Shambala108 ☎ 23:15, August 16, 2018 (UTC)
- Well I thought I made it clear. Your edits violate our spelling policy, and you continued to make them after I informed you of that. Sometimes we admins block people temporarily to get their attention. Make sure you read our spelling rules before you "correct" any more spelling. There are a lot of differences between British and (I'm assuming) American spelling.
- Incidentally, it's easier to contact someone on this wiki rather than going to wiki central, where you left the message for me. I pretty much never check that, and only happened to see it when I was at the other wiki I edit. I didn't block your ability to edit on this page specifically so you could leave a message here.
- I will unblock you, but make sure you don't correct any spelling unless you know for a fact that it's incorrect by British standards. Thanks, Shambala108 ☎ 23:49, August 16, 2018 (UTC)
You have to stop. You keep changing British spelling to American, against policy. Do not change any more spelling on this wiki until you learn the differences. Shambala108 ☎ 01:51, August 17, 2018 (UTC)
OK, the first time I blocked you was just to get your attention. Now you know your edits violate policy and you've been told to stop, but you haven't. I've blocked you for three days so you can learn the spelling differences. If you need to respond, do so on this page, because I don't check the main FANDOM page. Shambala108 ☎ 02:04, August 17, 2018 (UTC)
Incompatibility
You claim to be unable to learn British spelling without external help. You threaten to continue violating our spelling rules if someone does not "give [you] all the British words". The combination of your inability to behave according to the rules of this wiki with your aggressive posture effectively disqualifies you from becoming a useful member of this community. You cannot expect other users, admin or otherwise, to babysit you. You are absolutely not entitled to demand it. You have interest in other wikis, some of which I am sure use the language familiar to you. Please apply your efforts there. Amorkuz ☎ 02:52, August 17, 2018 (UTC)
Re: your block
Look, I only blocked you for three days. User:Amorkuz blocked you for longer for the reasons he stated above this message. Read that message carefully. If you want to make your case to him, do so on this talk page. Don't post the message at Community Central/FANDOM or whatever you want to call it, because he may not see it. And please stop harassing me with messages, it's now out of my hands. See Help:I'm blocked for the proper procedure for responding to blocks. Thanks, Shambala108 ☎ 19:59, August 18, 2018 (UTC)
Unsuccessful cover up
I am glad that you finally followed the procedure and contacted me, the blocking admin, and hopefully stopped harassing other users, including one non-admin user. Unfortunately, it has come to my attention that you had tried to remove the post in which you had threatened to continue violating the rules of Tardis wiki, unless we, its admin, submit to your demands. In explaining my block above, I linked to your post. Apparently, your reaction was to try and conceal the truth. I'm afraid this is not acceptable. I am not an admin on Community Central where your whitewashing took place, but it is certainly prohibited on this wiki to modify one's posts that have already been quoted by other users. Thus, in the interests of transparency and truth, I reproduce the post that led to your current block here in full:
Oi, if you want me to stop it, then tell me or I will have to do it all the time. It's because of Grammerly so, if you want me to stop it, then please give me all the British words becuase I looked all the up and I couldn't find them. Also, I'm a student at 18. And I'm still reading my book so please, post them so I can do this when I have free time.
The original form of the now modified edit can be verified by clicking the "src" link above. Amorkuz ☎ 22:13, August 19, 2018 (UTC)
- For completeness purposes, here is a link to the edit where you removed the problematic content. And by now, as follows from the history of the page w:community:Thread:1500985, you started removing your posts en masse. Let me assure you that this is futile as FANDOM keeps complete histories of all pages. It is also not helping your case. Amorkuz ☎ 22:23, August 19, 2018 (UTC)
- Apologies for "butting in", but Grammarly (which is a grammar-checking Chrome extension) does have a British English setting, which I have notified Chasenina of. This would allow him to properly edit with only British English errors highlighted, and would clear up any confusion for him without the necessity for giving him "all the British words". It may be wise to give him amnesty in this case, since it may very well just be a case of being misled by an incorrect spellchecker setting (which I personally have as well). Of course, if you've had more experience and are confident that he cannot return (even after the spellchecker issues on his end are resolved) due to his aggressive behaviour, you may keep the block -- after all, it is your judgement entirely. I'm simply outlining some additional context from my usage of the software, and my belief that an infinite block may be rather heavy-handed in this scenario.
