'''Doctor Who [[visual effects designer]]s''' were only credited during the [[1963]] run of the series. There is some hesitancy in placing them within the [[visual effects]] department, despite their title, because most of what they were doing would be considered [[special effects]] by the [[BBC Wales]] production. Until roughly the [[Seventh Doctor]]'s era, their effects largely happened during [[principal photography]] and were therefore realised in-camera, something which, in the [[21st century]] is practically definitional to the "special effect". Nevertheless, because they would have been responsible for a few things realised in post-production in the late 1980s, and because the title is ''historically'' appropriate, we place this category within the visual effects department.
