The Cybermen used small cybernetic creatures called Cybermats as advance guards and as attack carriers of plagues. The Cybermats originated on Mondas during the earliest phases of Cyberman history, when most of the planet had not yet converted. (BFA: Spare Parts)
Cybermats tended to resemble oversized metallic silverfish and have segmented bodies with cilia-like tactile sensor probes along the base of their heads.
Known variants
There are three known variants of Cybermat:
- The first have crystalline eyes and antennae through which they receive commands. (DW: The Tomb of the Cybermen)
- The second have photoreceptors for eyes instead of crystals. (DW: The Wheel in Space)
- The thrird have segmented, eyeless, flat bodies, lacking cilia. (DW: Revenge of the Cybermen)
