Alan Cumming played King James I in The Witchfinders. Much earlier in his career, he had appeared in the BBV Productions film The Airzone Solution (which was written by Nicholas Briggs and starred Jon Pertwee, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Nicola Bryant). He was also offered the part of the Doctor by Russell T Davies but declined, saying he did not want to spend eight months out of the year in Cardiff.[1]
