Spain is a country in South-Western Europe, bordered to the west by Portugal and to the north by France.

In 1985, a Sontaran-Androgum group landed in Seville, taking over a local villa. One of the Androgum, along with an infected Second Doctor, would head into town to try one of the local restaurants.

In 2059, Spain was involved in space travel. When the Tenth Doctor arrived at Bowie Base One, it was theorised he might be part of a Spanish Mars mission.

Behind the scenes

After plans to shoot scenes in America fell through, The Two Doctors was filmed in Spain, one of the few serials of the original series to be filmed outside the United Kingdom, and the last before the original series ended in 1989. In the mid-1990s, Doctor Who: The TV Movie would be the next adventure filmed outside the UK, when it was produced in Canada.
