Laura Corbett was an inhabitant of Eastwold, and the daughter of Geoff Corbett. Her father had recently died and she started to sell off his books to Rance. She saw a new door in a library. She was married to Simon Corbett, a fictional character she had created. She knew he wasn't real, but kept this secret, as her perfect fantasy.
She knew of the Crooked Man, as he came from a book her father had written. After Simon sacrificed himself to close a breach to the Land of Fiction, she brought up their son, Edward, with a new partner, a second father to Edward. (AUDIO: The Crooked Man)
