Captain Anastas Thrax was the leader of a band of space pirates in 2075. They hijacked supply ships en route to the human colony on Venus and sold the goods at high prices. They operated from a space station which was hidden from Earth by a cloud of invisible mist. When the First Doctor, John and Gillian arrived at the station, Thrax captured them, but they freed their fellow prisoners, defeated the guards with potatoes, and shut down the mist machine.
