Lizzie Steele was an American woman who lived in Montgomery, Alabama with her husband, Mr Steele.
On 30 November 1955, Lizzie dropped her glove on the street. It was picked up by Ryan Sinclair, who attempted to hand it back to her. Lizzie's racist husband slapped Ryan across the face and ordered him to get his "filthy black hands" off Lizzie, and warned Ryan that he would have "a noose for a neckerchief" were he to disturb a white woman in Montgomery.
