Brian was the boyfriend of Dr Grace Holloway in 1999. Frustrated with her frequent disappearances in service to Walker General Hospital, he moved out of their shared house on or near New Year's Eve, 1999. When he did so he took his personal belongings, and the sofa. He had, however, left behind a pair of shoes, which she gave to the barefooted Eighth Doctor soon after his regeneration.
