Uncle Digby was a relative of Madge Arwell and her children, Cyril and Lily Arwell. He was much wealthier than the Arwells and possessed a large country estate in Dorset. Behind the scenes
This character's name is an obvious allusion to Professor Digory Kirke, who owns the estate which houses the wardrobe in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
