Leslie Bates (died 2014[1])had several uncredited roles in some of the first Doctor Who TV stories. Most notable of these was as the stand-in for Jeremy Young as Kal. It is Bates's shadow that is seen at the cliffhanger conclusions of both "The Pilot Episode" and Episode 1 of the transmitted version of An Unearthly Child. (DWMS Summer 1994) Bates also had roles in Dixon of Dock Green and Z-Cars, among others.
